NOMINATIONS FOR 2008-2009 OFFICERS

Deadline for nominations is May 9, 2008

Nominations are being accepted for:            President-elect

                                                                  Treasurer

                                                                  Local Councilors (2)

President-elect and Treasurer should be members with experience with the policies and practices of the Society.  Local Councilors are entry positions for newer members who would like to explore future leadership in TSS.  Nominations should include a short resume with details on Society achievements.  All officers must be current members of TSS.  President-elect must also be a member of the national American Society for Microbiology.

President-elect (1-year term as President-elect, 1-year term as President)

The President-elect is a one-year term, automatically rising to President the following year.  As President-elect the successful candidate is the program chair, planning the speakers, facilities, and refreshments for lectures and symposia (with help from the Executive Council).  As President the following year, he/she presides at the meetings and introduces the speakers, maintains contact with ASM, and generally oversees the activities of the Society.

Treasurer (2-year term)

The treasurer maintains the TSS checking and savings accounts as well as the records of all financial aspects of the Society, including branch finances and regional monies from ASM.  The treasurer prepares and presents reports at executive council meetings and helps coordinate financial aspects of dinner meetings.

Local Councilor(s) (3-year term)

Local Councilors (6 total, 2 of which are newly elected each year) are expected to attend Executive Council meetings, provide input, help identify and recruit new officers, and assist with various committees (nominations, Waksman Award, student scholarship, meeting in miniature, picnic, etc.).  It is a good starting position for someone interested in learning more about TSS.
