Dr. Lynn L. Silver, Dr. Silver received her doctorate at Tufts University in Molecular Biology and Microbiology in 1975 and did postdoctoral work on bacterial DNA replication at the Université de Genève, and on DNA replication biochemistry of bacteriophage T4 at NIH. In 1982, she joined Merck Research Laboratories (Rahway, NJ), where she worked for 21 years, conducting research and supervising groups involved in discovery efforts for new antibacterials in both natural products and chemical collections, support of chemical synthetic projects on improved antibacterials, pre-clinical evaluation of antibacterial drug candidates and the study of antibacterial resistance. After taking early retirement from Merck in 2003, she established an independent consultancy to the pharmaceutical industry in the area of antibacterial discovery. She has been a member of ASM since 1982, is a member of the Editorial Board of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (1997-2008), an ASM Branch Lecturer (2007-2009), a Section Editor of the ASM EcoSal web-book, a member of Scientific Advisory Boards of a number of biotechnology companies, and has spoken at and chaired numerous meetings focused on antibacterial discovery. In addition, Dr. Silver has served as a TSS local councilor for the last year.

NOMINATIONS FOR 2008-2009 OFFICERS Deadline for nominations is May 9, 2008 Nominations are being accepted for: President-elect Treasurer Local Councilors (2) President-elect and Treasurer should be members with experience with the policies and practices of the Society. Local Councilors are entry positions for newer members who would like to explore future leadership in TSS. Nominations should include a short resume with details on Society achievements. All officers must be current members of TSS. President-elect must also be a member of the national American Society for Microbiology. President-elect (1-year term as President-elect, 1-year term as President) The President-elect is a one-year term, automatically rising to President the following year. As President-elect the successful candidate is the program chair, planning the speakers, facilities, and refreshments for lectures and symposia (with help from the Executive Council). As President the following year, he/she presides at the meetings and introduces the speakers, maintains contact with ASM, and generally oversees the activities of the Society. Treasurer (2-year term) The treasurer maintains the TSS checking and savings accounts as well as the records of all financial aspects of the Society, including branch finances and regional monies from ASM. The treasurer prepares and presents reports at executive council meetings and helps coordinate financial aspects of dinner meetings. Local Councilor(s) (3-year term) Local Councilors (6 total, 2 of which are newly elected each year) are expected to attend Executive Council meetings, provide input, help identify and recruit new officers, and assist with various committees (nominations, Waksman Award, student scholarship, meeting in miniature, picnic, etc.).
