COMEDY:
Bill
Hicks: Rants in E' Minor
This cd
is not for the weak at heart. Bill left nothing sacred in his stand-up
routine or his life. His life was cut way too short, Bill died of
pancreatic cancer at the age of 32. This cd was pressed after his
death and shows the Lenny Bruce / George Carlin like genius that was Bill
Hicks trademark. Incredible social commentary and great bights highlight
this tragically short career. Having liked Bill's comedy since his
appearance on rodney dangerfield's Young Comedians Special it is great
to know that even though Bill is gone he is not forgotten and his work,
much like Lenny bruce's will live on for years to come.

Country:
Steve Earle: El' Corazon
Steve
has unquestionable returned to the top of the nashville scene as singer/songwriter/producer.
Since his much publicized bouts with drugs and alcohol he has emerged stronger
than ever in my estimation, taking his hard times and pain and funneling
them into his work. In his last two albums,
I Feel Alright
and El'
Corazon, Steve shows the depth of
a man who has looked death square in the face and won the war, but not
without losing several battles along the way. He writing shows the
thought and emotion of a man who has experienced the pain of life's up
& downs first-hand and is still here to speak about them. His
moving tribute to his friend, the late Townes
Van Zandt in
Fort Worth Blues, is
chilling as Steve recounts the effect that his friend has had upon his
own career. Christmas In Washington is a no bones indictment
of a political system that is more concerned with self-preservation than
with helping the people it serves. The album is one of tremendous
depth and thought and should not be taken lightly in this age of the "
highly catchy, low on substance pop music that pervades the scene as of
late! " This is one album truly
worth its price tag, show check it out.
