Helping Horseshoe Program Information

The Helping Horseshoe Therapeutic Riding Club is a recreational riding program for the learning disabled, mentally retarded and emotionally or physically handicapped. We are a registered non-profit corporation, which allows the program to offer safe and enjoyable riding lessons at a reasonable price. The Helping Horseshoe provides certified instructors and trained volunteers to teach and assist handicapped children and adults to horseback ride. The program operates on a year-round basis utilizing an indoor and outdoor riding arena. Spring, Summer and Fall sessions range from 8 to 10 weeks in length, with one lesson per week. Due to weather conditions, our Winter session runs for 5 weeks. Riding lessons average 45 minutes in length with three students per lesson. Every lesson is individually designed and conducted by Kara Stark McGrew, Educational Director, to ensure safe, consistent and beneficial lessons. In addition, each student receives an initial riding evaluation by Kara, as well as follow-up evaluations to chart student progress.
