Please only list items you can do lookups in on a fairly regular basis. Remember you will be doing this on a strictly voluntary basis, so don't list things that will take hours of research unless you are willing to do it.

Try to list items that aren't widely available to others and are of general interest to others. In fact, we will not add the following to the Helplist so

Do Not List:

• Listings that only give a place, but no specific items. In other words, please give specific details on the item you are willing to do lookups in. (type of record, time frames available, etc....)
• Family History Center/LDS information that can be found at any FHC or offers to order microfilm from Salt Lake City. There are FHCs all over and almost everyone has access to this. Exception: If your FHC has microfilm on hand (you don't have to order it), or unique information not found at other FHCs, you can list these.
• As of August 1, 2001, we will no longer be accepting listings for "surname databases" since these would be of interest to only a select few people. Those already listed on a Helplist page will remain, but we will not be accepting any new "surname listings".

Please remember that you cannot in any way profit from looking up the items you list. You may recover costs you spend directly on the behalf of someone else (if both parties agree) such as copy costs and postage, but you cannot charge for your time. This is a volunteer list which usually means that you are offering to help someone for free. If you have to travel to lookup the information and want to be reimbursed for gas and parking then you shouldn't offer that particular item on a volunteer list. If you feel that something needs too much research to do for free, simply don't list it. This rule will be strictly enforced. If we find a volunteer is charging for the information they are looking up, they will be contacted by the page co-ordinator to verify that this is the case and if they aren't in compliance with the rules, they will be removed from the list!
