Looking for information on Will Nelson Burgess born about
June 18, 1869 in Mississippi and his wife Myrah or Elmirah
Hurt born about April 3, 1876 in Salem, Arkansas. They
had a son Ponder Otas (Otis) Burgess born September 9, 1898
in Mannsville, OK. Will and Ponder were both law men
acording to family lore - Will was a US Marshall and Ponder
was a Deputy Sheriff. Will, Myrah and Ponder were likely
full blood indians, prob. Cherokee. Ponder and his wife
Artierie Holt, had a son Eddie Ray Burgess, my Grandfather.

My lost ancestor is the father of Green Burgess. The name
Green runs through the family heavily. Green had a son
named Green and so on. Am looking for the father of Green
Burgess, I think it might be a William but not sure. Green
was born Aug 25, 1830 in Asheville North Carolina. The next
time I find him is when he married Louisa Murry(Murray) in
Clark County Indiana 1849. He lived around the Rising Sun
area for several years having several children. His wife
Louisa died in champaign Illinois Dec 1877. His second
marriage was to a Mary Farris in Nebraska. Green died in
Maitland, Missouri 1922 living with his son Samuel Henry
Burgess. Can anyone help me place this ancestor.

1834 in Alabama according to census records. She married
Uriah Chestnut in Lowndes Co., Mississippi 20 Dec. 1855.
Cannot not locate this family on a 1860 census, but her and
children Anna Jane born 1857 and James Uriah born 1864 are
listed on the 1870 Maury Co., Tennessee census. Don't know

I am looking for any information regarding a Marshall
Burgess,born about 1820 Canada (possibly Quebec), died in
1905 in Constable, Franklin Co., NY. He was living with a
woman who was supposedly Flora Shepard, they had a largew
family among whom was a Marshall Jr. born 1844, Louis born
1845, George, Frank, Nellie, Melinda. They came to Franklin
Co. NY about 1850 according to the 1900 census. It is
possible Marshall Burgess Sr. may have had a brother named
Henry, who was in Bangor, Franklin Co. in 1880.
It is interesting to note that Marshall Burgess Jr. is found
in 1875 census living with Oliver Lowell and his wife Sophia
Lowell, both born 1790's and listed as Marshall Jr.'s
grandparents. I am guessing Sophia is the actual grandparent
and that Oliver Lowell is her second husband. But not sure
if she grandparent on his father? or mother's side?

Any help or clues to anyone in this family is appreciated.

know some of my father's generation and a different Burgess
line were both at the same family reunion in the 70's, but
I don't have any more details. My father was born in 1943.

living in Pownal Vt 1840's Their daughter Mary Jane married
Sidney Ostrander and had one child Merriam James. She died
in 1842 in Pownal died in child birth of merriam. She is
buried in Gardner cemetery in Pownal, VT. Thomas died abt
1848 and Dorcas died 1846. There was several families
(Burgess) in that area I would like to tie into that line.I
believe it goes back to Thomas of Sandwich 1600's

My Grandpa Emery Jackson Burgess b. approx 1900 married to
Rosie Elizabeth Smith b. October 16, 1909 (daughter of
Roxie Smith who later married into the Calvert family).
They had 11 children: Robert (who died of flux at the age

I am trying to find any information about Edward Burgess and
his wife Mary Olive. Both were 40 years of age at the time

children they had, but am certain that their son Benjamin was

Hi! Our family is trying to put together a family history
book and our Burgess side has turned into a brick wall
before we hardly even get started! Can anyone help break
through the wall? My great grandfather was William Oscar
Burgess, born Jan 3, 1880 at Benton, Illinois (Franklin
County). That's all the info that was passed down through
the family Bible.

On the 1880 census, we found him listed as the 5 month old
son of James W & Amanda T Burgess, with a 2-year old
brother named John H Burgess. Amanda must die, because
other family sources say that Amanda died at the birth of
William Oscar (though this does not match the census info)&
William's funeral records lists his stepmom as Cynthia
Durham. (William Oscar Burgess died May 20, 1956 at
Springfield, Missouri. He is buried in the Hillcrest
Cemetery at Mtn Grove, MO (Wright County))

However, we haven't been able to trace the family any
farther back, other than that little bit.

Can anyone else give us a new lead to follow? Thanks a

John Thomas (J.T.) or Bud Burgess (b 10-17-1892 d 2-8-45).
He had one sister Fennie Burgess (b 1890-d 1947) who
married Lamar Ford. J.T.'s parents were William Abie
Burgess (1868-1893) and Carrie Bell McKay (1871-1909). My
father-in-law was very young when his father died so we

I am looking for Edward Burgess and wife Sarah Ann Miller
that were from England. Edward was born in June 8, 1787 in
Canterbury, Kent, England. He died in July 29, 1849 in
Millbrook, England. He was buried in Millbrook Churchyard,
England near the entrance on the left and is near Robert
Pollok, the Scotch Poet. He was a Wesleyan Local Preacher,
and class leader for 40 years. He was licensed by Sir
Lancelot Shadwell. Edward wrote the book called, A
Lighthouse for Seamen Between Earth and Heaven. Is this
book still available somewhere? Does Edward tombstone
still exist? Is there any information in history books?

Looking for information of the Burgess Family headed by
Henry (Harry) Robert and May Burgess. May died of cancer in
about 1949. Harry died in 1958 of cancer and
heart trouble. He was living in the
Muswell Hill area of London in his later years.

The sons in age order were Harry, Sid, Ron, Eddie, Len and
Reg.

Harry was married to Christine, and he died in
December 1961 - no children. They lived in the
London (Archway) area.

Sid was married to Jean, and had 2 girls - Brenda
and another girl. Sid lived in the Liverpool area.

Ron was married to Betty and they lived in the
Islington area.

Eddie and Gwen had five children - Pat, Terry, Michelle and
two younger ones whose names I don't recall. They
lived in the North London area

Len's wife was Rose and they had a son, Raymond.
Len did a bit of everything. He died around 1969.

Reg was born in 1934 and was married to Margaret, in 1957.
The had two children, Caroline and Philip (me!)
The family emigrated to the US -
California - in 1962. Regdied of a heart attack in
1969.

William BURGESS was born in Surry County VA or Edenton
District NC. Moved family to Orangeburg District SC, where
first wife died and he married Agnes. The family then
moved to Giles County TN, to Madison County AL, and finally
Franklin County AL.

A strong family tradition states that William's father was
John D. BURGESS (b.?, d.?) of Irish (or Scotch-Irish)
descent, who mirgated to America in about 1730.

I have searched many MD, VA, and NC records but can not
find any immigration, census, marriage or death records
identifying this John D. BURGESS.
