Willliam Douthat, Tolbert Burgess, Joseph Burgess and my
grandfather Samuel Thompson Burgess b. Dec 26, 1857, died
May 1926 at Nantucket, Ma.

My dad long ago told me what state our Burgess were at when
C.T. Burgess traveled back to Va. to marry, William who
signed consent for marriage might had been a brother.

Searching for relatives of Delma LeRoy Burgess b.1914
Oklahoma d.1951 San Diego, CA. and apparently buried in
Colusa County, CA. Mother was Rose, father Joseph
Burgess. Had a sister named Sybill and a daughter named
Joann. Delma was my grandfather and I never met him.
Family history is hard to track as he and my grandmother
(Margaret Hill) divorced (they were married in 1941) when

Darius Mosher b. 1801 married Susanna(h) Burgess b.1813.

ME and died in 1942 in Stewardstown, NH. Melvin married
Temperance Skidgel and was in Caribou, ME for the 1900
census. I believe Melvin's parents were Alonzo Parker
Burgess (b. 4/1818, ME) and Sylvia Roderick (b. 1824,
Canada) - they are also listed in Caribou, ME for the 1900
census with another son, Owen L Burgess. Owen L. Burgess
married Pauline Skidgell. At the moment I don't have any
other info that definitively links Melvin to Alonzo and
Sylvia except for some family info which I have not yet

1850's and settled in Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio.
Samuel and wife (unknown) had at least two children which

Uriah Chestnut 20 Dec 1855 in Lowdes Co., Mississippi.
According to census records, 1st child, Anna Jane born in
Alabama. Next child, James Uriah born in Tennessee. Cannot
find family on 1860 census for either state. 1870 census
finds Cynthia with the two children in Maury Co., TN. No
husband.

I am trying to locate family of my mother's sister ELIZABETH
McG. BURGESS born Lanark, Scotland 1907. She went to
Australia somtime before 1930. Elizabeth married Alfred
Walker in 1930 in Sydney, they had a daughter June born
1933. They seperated in the late 1930's. She died in a
Sydney hospital in the 1950's. I have the last letter she
wrote to my mother (late 1930's). I would love to make
contact with this cousin (and any others) I never knew about
until after my mother died in 1992.

I read that the Annables and the Burgesses were great
friends in NY and on into IL. He was called Uncle Jack
Burgess. George Crichton Annable says the Applebys,
Annables, and Burgesses came from New York to IL. That
they used to talk of Syracuse and Utica NY. Husted Annable
would tell of the bar room rough and tumble fighting they
did.

I found two Benjamin Burgesses in 1830 census for Ira,
Cayuga Cty, NY pg. 453 and 449. In 1840 he is found on
page 284 as is a Benjamin, Jr. He did not have a son named
Benjamin. In 1850, there is a Benjamin Burgess in Ira,
Cayuga Cty, NY p 030.

In 1860 census for Genesee Twp, Whiteside Cty, IL. He
listed as a 49 year old farmer born in NY. Sarah A. 50 and
born in NY. William 18 is a farm laborer as is James at
24. Ruth Maria 11 b. NY also

Benjamin Burgess was born in 1810 in NY state and
died, more than likely, in Whiteside Cty, IL. He was
married Sarah Ann Annable, born January 23, 1809 in prob.
Cayuga Cty, (possibly Saratoga Cty) NY. They married 1829
in Cayuga Cty, NY she died in 1899 in Prob Genesee Twp,
Whiteside Cty, IL

Susannah Burgess daughter of William Burgess married John
Barkley and they had a child my gggrand dad Ebenezer Barkley
who was born in 1891 and died in 1872 in Leesburg Tn. I know
that is not much to go on but that is all I have on Suananh
and her Dad William???

I am researching the family of my Great Great Grandfather,
Samuel Burgess, who was born Oct. 23, 1847 at Chorley,
Lancashire, England and died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on
Oct. 21, 1927. He met and married Louisa Jane Rossiter of
Bath, England in 1870 and they arrived in Canada in 1871.
They had seven children;Alexander who moved to Zion City
Ill.; Rowey who moved to San Fransisco; Amy who never
married and died in Toronto; Mabel who married a Mr. Bird
and lived in Zion City, Ill.; Bessy who married a Mr.
Jackson and lived and died in Toronto; Edith Alice Sophia
(my Great Grandmother) married Edgar Walter Edward Gilmore
in Toronto and moved to Windsor, Ontario til her death.
Would appreciate any further contacts from distant relations
or any information on Samuel's parents in England.

Bradford Co. PA census, Benjamin was born abt. 1790. These
were the only Burgesses in the area, first records being
found from a deed where Benjamin bought land from Sally's
father Daniel in Apr. of 1817. I have aquired death
certificates for three of his children and all list their
father as being born in RI. If anyone would know of where
I might look to find him, I sure would appreciate it. He

William Burgess died in 1785 in Newberry, SC (the old 96th
District) . His wife was Eleanor, maiden name possibly
Heath. There were 3 children, William ,Abagail and Sarah. I
am trying to find out the ancestors of William or Eleanor
.Our gamily history says that William came from Virginia,
the descendant of one of 9 brothers who came from Bristol,
England.

I am looking for my Grandfather. His name is Stanley
Thomas Burgess and was born around 1920-1925. He is an
Australian and served in the Merchant Navy during the War.
He spent some time in England, where he Met my Grandmother
Annabelle Brady. My mother (his daughter) was born
08/04/43. Her name is Marlene Sonia. My Grandmother re-
married and her surname became Dascombe. When my mother
married my father her surname became Cockwell.

I am looking for information on Asia Burgess, born
4/22/1828, died 7/28/1909. His daughter Fannie Belle
Burgess using the name Belle was born 5/11/1859 and died
11/22/1940. Belle married John Riley Biggs who was born
8/11/1851 and died 11/20/1924. John, who used the name
Riley much of the time and Belle were my paternal great
grandparents. They are buried in Lexington, LaFayette
County, MO. This is my father's family, Dad is almost 80
years old and has really become interested in finding out
about his family since my Mom died in 1998. I would be
most greatful for any information. John Riley and Belle

I am looking for realitives of James Milton Burgess, born
in 1902. He and his sister (1899?)were put in an orphanage
in Greenville, South Carolina in or around 1905. There is a
rumor that the mother was a Cherokee indian. I would love
to find someone who could fill in some blanks. Our Family
history starts with my grandparents as far a know.

I am trying to locate my husbands Mother - Janice Burgess
(name on the birth certificate). She gave birth to a boy
on September 18, 1958 in Texas. A couple from Edgewood,
Texas adopted him. We have been told she already had one

My father, Harold Lee Burgess was born in Minniapolis
Minasota. My grandfather Earl Burgess i am not sure where
he was born, i belive Min. My grandmothers maiden name was
Lilian McGuire, agian i am not sure where she was born, i
belive in Minn.My grandfather has one sister and my
grandmother has 2 sisters and 3 brothers. I would like to

grandfather. He was married to Margaret(Wood) Plummer b.
1783 d. 5/5/1838. They had 7 children: Ann (b.12/22/1815),

(b.5/19/1821), Elizabeth & Sarah. They were Quakers. Does
anyone know who are the parents of this John Burgess?
Family notes given to me 20 years ago indicate that Joseph
Burgess b. 8/4/1763 d. 2/26/1851 and Ann Dutton b.6/19/1764
d.12/24/1831 are John's parents but other than these notes
I can find no other documentation to substantiate this fact.
