that married Rachael Pritchard on Oct 9-1927 in Lauderdale
County, Alabama.

I have lots of Pritchard information and I need information

My grand Aunt Winifred Morris married Clarence S. Burgess,
probably in Charleston S.C. He was stationed aboard the
U.S.S. Hartford in the Chars Shipyard 1915-1920. They were
transfered to San Diego CA. They had a son, named for his
father, that may have been born in Ky in 1920, may have
died 1941 in CA. Since the son was born in Ky could be that
there are family ties in that State. I have been unable to
find any info on the father. Winnie did remarry but I don't
know the date. If anyone thinks they may know a connection
to this Burgess line, I would appreciate your contacting me.

I am doing research on the ancestors of Nute/Newt Burgess of
Kentucky. He was born on October 3, 1881 in Estill County,
KY.

My delima begins with the search of the 1880 Soundex.
I was told to search this soundex since sometimes
it took the census taker a year or so to complete a
census back then (is this true?) According to Nute's death
certificate, his father's name is Thomas Burgess. In Estill
County there are two Thomas Burgess'with sons named Newton.

Thomas Burgess #1 is a 33 year old white male. He
is married to 28 year old Mary Burgess (Born in Kentucky).
All their children are born in Kentucky. William age 11,
Henry age 9, Mahala age 7, Robert age 4 and Newton age 2.

Thomas Burgess #2 is a 35 year old white male. He is
married to Elizabeth Burgess age 30. She was also born in
Kentucky along with all their children. William age 9,
Henry age 7, Jane age 5, James age 3 and Newton age 1.

According to the 1990 Soundex for Kentucky there is a Henry
C. Burgess listed as head of household. This information
was very difficult to read and I have left question marks
where I am unsure. At best I could figure that Henry C. is a
white male born September (?)1872 and is a 27 year old that
was born in Estill County. He is married to Myrtle Burgess
(B: August 1883 in Kentucky - age 16).

Also in their household are:
E.L Ross, (relation SL B: February 1886 in KY - age 14)
Addie Ross(relation SL B: July 1887 (?) in KY - age 10 (?),
Thomas Burgess (relation: Father B: march 1884(?)in KY age

Jonathan Stearns, b. 1750 ish in Concord MA area, son of
Eleazer and Mary Stearns, marries Hannah Burgess. Jonathan
and Hannah both die the winter of 1812 in Brandon VT from,"a
winter fever epedemic." Their children are Jonathan Jr.,
Sarah (b. 1774) who marries James Wing, and Mercy who
marries Paul Field.
Jacob Burgess and Susanna Williston of Little Compton, RI
have a Hannah of about the right age, but that seems like a
distance from the Concord, Bedford, Newton, Littleton area

unknown. He married in New Orleans, LA. Mary Jane Rutan in

I am excited and I know I probably shouldn't be but here is
the latest idea on one dead end of Burgess/Finney ancestry.
Fact: George Henry BURGESS "Amey M. Phinney" 29 Dec 1866,
Foster, Providence, RI ( from civil recds & History of
Providence, RI).
From her headstone, birth 22 Mar 1846. I have (until now)
searched in vain for her parentage. Only her mother's name
MARY A. PHINNEY was entered on the marriage documents (very
curious).

Today, I found a possibility that has best promise of any
lead I've seen in past two years.
Annie FINNEY was daughter of MARY A. (Burgess) FINNEY.
I believe this ANNIE FINNEY to be AMEY PHINNEY wife of
G. H. Burgess above.

As of right now I have only circumstancial evidence:
1. obviously the names are nearly identical
2. the mother's name matches
3. from page 72 & 73 of the "Finney Families of America",
Annie FINNEY was born at the right period based on
birthdates of her siblings. See below.
4. the track record of this branch of BURGESS family
marrying children, grandchildren & cousins of Burgesses is
very strong.

Mass.; m. Oct. 16, 1836, when both were of Plymouth, Mary
Ann BURGESS, who was b. there in 1817, a dau. of John

Gassaway). Am especially interested in his life after
Richard moved his family to Hocking and descendants.

Grandfather was William Patrick Burgess 1896 of Waltham, MA.
He had a brother Angus and they both fought in WW1 together.
My grandfather came back from the war and marrried Bridget
Collins. They settled in Newton, MA.

Mrs Mary Fellers 73 of 744 North Cottage Ave., a resident
of Kankakee the past twelve years died at 11.55 am
Wednesday in St Marys Hospital after a prolonged illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Sat. at Hertz Funeral
Chapel with the Rev Eugene Kunce officiating. Burial will
be in a Forrest [Livingstone Co IL] Cemetery. visitation
will begin at the Chapel at 2 pm Friday. Mrs Fellers was
born May 7 1891 in Alexandria MO., daughter of the late Mr
and Mrs George Burgess. She was married to George Fellers
July 22 1908 in Piper City. They resided in Nebraska for
23 years then moved to Forrest. 12 years ago she took up
residence in Kankakee IL. Mr [George]Fellers died in Sep
1941. Surviving are daughters Mrs Ettabelle Rayburn, of
Kankakee, IL and Miss Mildred Fellers of Detroit Michigan,
a son Kenneth Fellers of Kankakee, sisters Mrs Helen
Trouter of Davenport IA, Mrs Minnie Bartley of Wshingtom
DC, Mrs Lola Barnes of Ames IA, and Mrs Pearl Traid of
Clinton IA. Brothers Ames Burgess of Maitland MO, Charles
Burgess of Oregon, and Earl Burgess of Ames IA. 10
grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren

Looking for any descendants of Andrew Jackson Burgess who
was born around Wayland, Iowa and moved to Indianapolis,
Ind area. He was married to Mary McClintic, he died in

BURGESS: Benjamin b. 1790-1799 in RI. He is found on the
1830 Big Flats, NY (Chemung Co.)census. He married Sally
DOANE, Nov. 16, 1817 in Windham Center, PA (Bradford Co.).
He died presumely in Windham, PA, March 13, 1839. His
children were: Emily Burgess, Polly Burgess, Benjamin
Burgess, Amanda Burgess, Dean Burgess, Sarah Ann Burgess,
and Daniel.

I have been able to find information about Daniel, he
operated a saw mill in Owego, NY and was a cabinet maker
later in his life. I have obtained three of Benjamin's
childrens' death certificates and all list their father as
being born in RI. I really need the names of Benjamin's
parents so I may continue my search. Thank you very much.

details from an obit which names CHARLES from Oregon; EARL
from Ames IA; MINNIE [BARTLEY]from Washington DC; HELEN
[TROTNER] from Davenport IA; LOLA [BARNES] from Ames IA;
PEARL[TRAID] from Clinton IA; also one other male from Ames
IA.I don't have full details from the obit, but believe it
was for the death of MARY[FELLERS] Georges daughter, in
