My question: Who are the parents and ancestors of Joseph C. STAFFORD, b. 1811 in New Hampshire, found on the 1850 census of LeRoy, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Joseph and Sylvia BURGESS STAFFORD had at least one son, William Byron STAFFORD, b. June 11, 1849 in LeRoy, Wisconsin, m. Nov. 20. 1872 at Mankato, Minnesota to Mary Elizabeth DURKEE who descends from William DURKEE (DURGY) and Martha CROSS of Ipswich, Massachusetts.

Mary Burgess born1800 in Chepathet R.I. daughter of Joseph and Lydia, married a man whose last name was Crossman. Mary died in 1875 in Brookfield, Mass. Need to know her husband's first name.She may be my Great Great Grandmother.

I have searched my BURGESS roots back to Benjamin Franklin Burgess, b. abt 1802 in MA, married to Matilda Jenkins on 1 Dec 1831 in Abington, Plymouth, MA. Children were Augustus Webster Burgess, b 27 May 1834, Sarag Whitney Burgess, b 16 Sept 1842, Franklin Burgess, b 16 Nov 1840, and Emory (Emery) Burgess b 2 Mar 1847. All were born in Abington. My line is from Emory, who married Mary Lewis, born in England, child and my grandfather, Albert Franklin Burgess, b 2 Oct 1873 in Rockland, Plymouth, MA, child and my father Emory Dwight Burgess, b 26 June 1907, Melrose Heights, MA and me, Dwight Spaulding Burgess, b 5 Sept 1935, Mt Holly, New Jersey.

I have searched the Abington records for more details on Benjamin Franklin Burgess, but have not found a birth place and date except census information which had him born in MA exact place unknown. I somehow suspect that he might have been born in Wareham or Duxbury, but I have only some vague court docket information. I am stuck at this point.   Any information anyone has would be appreciated. My grandfather's name was Vincent Orland Burgess, born, 1889-90, he had 7 children, Ruby, Mabel Audrey, Phyllis, Aletha, Robert, and Paul. He also had brothers, Earnest,George,William,and Vernon. He also had a sister named Carrie. He married Alma Mae Brown, of Upper Burlington, Nova Scotia, Canada. His sister Carrie Burgess, married an Ettinger and moved to the US. Sophia BURGESS is one of my grandmothers. She was born circ 1680 probably in Stafford County, Virginia and married William Alfred KING I have her father as John BURGESS , but that is the extent of the information that I have about Sophia. Tn.1848 Amos Dawson Jr. In 1850 census they had one child.I know a good bit about my granddad but nothing about her. I have found several cousins on line,but they are Dawsons. My great grandfather was Alexander John BURGESS, Sr, born December 16, 1867, near Maxeys, Oglethorpe County, Georgia; died January 23, 1944. He married Blanch YOUNG, born July 29, 1893, Maxeys, Oglethorpe County, Georgia; died September 20, 1971. About 1915, they moved to Snowden, Montgomery Co., AL. They are buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, AL. They had 4 children:

I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters, Dennis, Daniel, Richard, Mary Ellen, Mildred, and Carol. He married Zilpha MATTESON and she died in 1836 at Walloomsac. Benajah was the son of John BURGESS and Hannah JAMES. John and Hannah are buried at Sterling, CT. John BURGESS was born 1711 and died 1796. Hannah was born 1719 and died in 1786. Benajah BURGESS and Zilpha MATTESON had a son Benjamin BURGESS who married Rebecca CHASE and lived in Bennington, VT. In 1836, Benjamin moved to Wisconsin with his second wife, Amanda FOSTER. I'm researching the Benjamin BURGESS and Rebecca CHASE line and will exchange information with other researchers. I am researching the TIMOTHY BURGESS family. Timothy BURGESS was born abt 1794 in New York State. He is believed to be the son of Patrick Henry BURGESS. Timothy served as a private in Captain Elnathan Cobb's Company of the New York Militia in the War of 1812. He married Lodica PORTER on 1 June 1816 at Constantia, New York. They had 8 children. In 1856 Timothy moved to Portland, Dodge Co. Wisconsin and made declaration for land pension there. Timothy died on 30 April 1885 at Hadleyville, Eau Claire Co., Wisconsin. Any information on Patrick Henry BURGESS, along with other children's names and/or the birthdate of his son Timothy would be appreciated. I'm told by my grandfather that his grandmother was named "Willie Belle Burgess". He says that his grandmother's family was from Mississippi and that her father was a senator or something along those lines.
