REVIEW: Tweety's High-Flying Adventure

Oh, where do I start with this direct-to-video movie? Three directors and three scriptwriters got together and have made one of the most unfunny Warner Brothers features ever. The premise is the Colonel from the Kool Kat cartoon series (this should give an indication on where this is going) wagers Granny that Tweety can't succesfully travel around the world in 80 days and collect 80 pawprints of outsmarted putty-tats. (Thin premise, even for a Hanna Barbara cartoon.)

Oh, and the art. The animation is jittery, and at times seems worse than the typical Saturday morning fare. The backgrounds look unfinished at times, with splotches of water colors to indicate a clump of trees or water. Some are almost completely uncolored altogether.

Similar to the revamped Hanna Barbara series like "The Flintstones" and "The Jetsons," the gag pacing is awful: obvious jokes, lapses in character, and three second action freeze between jokes.

It's also painfully obvious continuity wasn't on the agenda here. Even if you don't know world geography, most people will notice it's impossible to travel east through America from San Francisco, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, CHICAGO, to New York.

If the horror that is the "Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries" or the segues is the various recent "classic clip flicks" is your opinion of the penultimate level of Looney Tunes humor, then you'll love this video. If you think that humor is more than the mere appearance of classic character cameos, save your $14.95.
