Truly the most tasteless OJ joke of all is that the prosecutors office and the cops were so racist and so incompetent that they made themselves the issue and the truth impossible to decipher. OJ may be innoncent, he may not, but by this point we will never know. I think that L.A. has a problem with celebrity defendents. Can you name one person arrested for a heinous or noteworthy crime who actually did time for it? The Menendez brothers walk, Heidi Fleiss walks, Hugh Grant walks, the Rodney King cops walk, Joey Bottafucco walks. Do they put anybody in jail there? I think that by this point you could stand in the middle of an L.A. street and beat the Pope to death with a live baby and still do no time. New York, on the other hand, we convict. Son of Sam? Still in jail. Mark David Chapman (the Lennon assassin)? Still in jail. Jean Harris did time, the Mayflower Madam did time. Micheal Milken and Ivan Boesky: Did time. Even Leona Helmsley did time. I think the difference is that we have Robert Morgenthau - a man older than justice itself who somehow manages to nail them like a carpenter. He even snagged the BCCI guys. I doubt the LA prosecutors office could jail someone who ripped off an ATM, with the cameras rolling. The point is clear. You got a crime to get off your chest?
