The Soapbox: Rants and Commentary:
Daytime TelevisionComposed by David Anderson(oommp@webspan.net)Yeah, I got something to say... How about daytime television? Have we, as a nation, digressed to the point where we derive pleasure from looking at those less fortunate than your average single-celled animal? I say the single-celled animals are more fortunate because they "are smarter," they get along better with each other, they are more "human." Why do we, as a nation, get off on watching the dysfunctional acting in bizzare and mysterious ways? Why am I supposed to care if some lackluster reject from our own gene pool isn't giving enough 'love' to his/her bovine girlfriend? The thought of some of these horrors having any kind of physical relationship is revolting to begin with. WHAT MAKES RICHARD BEY THINK I WANT TO WATCH THIS? I'll tell you what him thinks that...Ratings. Like rubberneckers along I95 we watch this parade of deviant behavior with more facination than Bill Clinton staring at the clevage of one of his new 'aides.' We can't stop ourselves. And I've figured out why. No matter how pathetic our lives may seem, we can get a lift by seeing people much more pathetic than ourselves. We can watch...Daytime Television. |
