Magic Stats
Here's something that came up on the MTG-L lists recently, courtesy of Peter Nederpel.
Hi fellow MTG fan's
Because of the requests for statistics I read when Fifth came out, I hereby
attach some information about the Magic Collection as a whole.
I have the lot in a database but I take in account a 1% error margin for typo's
because mosts lists were imported. (Yeah, if I would type in over 4000 cards)
Even as I write this mail, I'm correcting errors.
These are just some stat's I can think of, if anyone knows more, pls send them
to me. If I have enough I will start posting them on my web page.
(And please, send the requests to ME, not to the LIST.)

M A G I C S T A T I S T I C S:

# Currently there are 4190 cards from Alpha to Fifth, not counting promo's, misprints
and other "special" cards like DCI.
# These 4190 cards are different releases of 2071 Really Unique cards.
# There are 335 Summon Species, no difference made between Ape and Apes etc.
# Most common summon cards are Legends and Walls (both 98), but legends and Walls are
not really species so Clerics(36) are the first next in line. Bureaucrazy rulez!
# The most common unique card is the Mountain, there are 26 prints available. All other
4 lands have 25, the one extra is from Arabian Nights.
Next in line are Urza's Mine, Power Plant and Tower for 9 Each.
# The 5 cards available in EVERY basic set are:
Stone Rain
Power Sink
Regeneration
Dark Ritual
Disenchant,
that makes for 8 versions of each of them from Alpha to Fifth.
# Amazingly, there are still 1253 cards that exist only once! (Thus 818 are reprinted!)
# No statistics on artists, as I have not all data available. But Anson Maddocks
is definately a top-10!
# Considdering the standard that was set by Fourth edition, there are 7 basic card types.
Strangly, fifth/Mirage made an 8th type, the Mana Source (Dark Ritual).
Summarizing all cards into the 7 basic groups, thus not counting the Mana Source, Poly,
Mono and Continuous Artifacts as separate, these are the totals:
Interrupt 119
Land 303
Sorcery 341
Instant 412
Artifact 598
Enchantment 822
Summon 1595
# And for those of you who like to play color orientated:
163 Gold
303 Land
598 Artifact
624 Green
625 White
625 Black
626 Red
626 Blue
assuming all colors should be even, I'm looking for the missing G and W/B's, but I think
those are the missing Alpha(295) cards corrected in the beta(302) set.
