ORIENTAL PAINTING

Name:_____________________________________________

Art from China, Japan and other parts of Asia is called Oriental Art.

Many oriental cultures love depicting nature, and they paint nature on silk. They use soft and hard edges in their paintings by having the material wet or dry. Dry material gives a hard edge and wet gives a soft edge. Their paintings do not usually cover the whole paper or material. Their art work is light and not heavy in appearance. They often use fancy calligraphy (handwriting) in their pictures.

Try painting an animal or flower using your paper wet and dry. Plan your art work so that it does not look heavy and over loaded.
